Meet Sophia.  A young, happy girl enjoying one of her first few birthday parties of life.  These are moments that should be treasured.  Kids are difficult to shoot because they have so much energy and emotion they just don’t stand still.  If you’re shooting with a point-and-shoot camera, or an entry-level DSLR and are still trying to figure out the controls, I’ll save you some time.  Most cameras these days have a “kids” mode.  If they don’t, you can simply use their “sports” mode, a mode which your camera will be equipped with for sure.  These modes are basically telling the camera to keep focusing until the actual shot is taken, as the subject moves a lot.  It also tells it to fire off multiple shot if possible to make sure to get the one you want.  High ISO will also likely be enabled.

Often times, despite of these cameras intelligence, you still don’t get your shot.  Sometimes once, or sometimes for the whole event.  It’s important to have an experienced camera-user behind the lens with the right gear to bring in enough light to get your shot.  I have many more photos like these from Sophia’s birthday part and their parents were extremely happy with the photos.

If you need good photos for an important event, and you’re in the bay area, please contact me and I’ll make sure your memories are not missed.  Happy Birthday Sophia (even though you’re probably half-way to your next one by now!) and speaking of birthdays, today’s mine! :)

Hey folks!

CanonRumors.com has a new photo contest running in which the winner receives their choice of the new, Canon EF 8-15mm f/4 L fisheye or the new Canon 70-300 L.  With this fire under… me… I decided to submit 70 photos that I am most proud of.  For anyone interested, please have a look!  Keep in mind that many of the landscape photos are available for purchase in various sizes on my “For The Wall” page, and if you see the previous post, you’ll know that October is discount month on all fine art prints!

This past Sunday was the first birthday party of this little girl’s life.  Sofia has a lot of loving people around her and I wanted to capture the love and emotion of this event in the photos I was hired to take.  Below are a few of the photos, and may I say congratulations on turning one-year old Sofia!  May each other birthday bring you more and more happiness!

And of course… what fun would a birthday be without a piñata?!  : )

La Ronde, Six Flags Montreal, is a wonderfully fun amusement park located on an island in the Saint-Lawrence River, which runs to the south of the Island of Montreal, Quebec.  My girlfriend and I have enjoyed the park on numerous occasions (a Season Pass is the best way to enjoy the park if you even THINK you’ll go more than two times in the same year!)  Here are a few photos from one of our adventures there; this one happens to be at night, which is unusual for us.  We normally enjoy it during the day.  The photo above is available as a wall hanging in my Fine Art gallery as well!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Rollerblading event today in Blainville, Quebec!  I had a great time and it seems everyone else did too!  Montreal is a beautiful city and the surrounding area offers so much in the way of athletics and sports.  Here are a few photos from the event today, and if you click on the link below, you’ll be taken to my Zenfolio page with all the photos there in chronological order.  Thanks for checking it out!

Here are some photos taken from our balcony on the 4th of July, 2011.  These fireworks were being set off at La Ronde, the Six Flags park on an island in the river.  Enjoy!

It seems that just about every day, especially on weekends, there is SOMETHING sports-related or artistic going on in Montreal.  As my girlfriend and I headed downtown for some clothes shopping, we saw all these bicyclists in the street.  So here’s a few fun ones!

My girlfriend and some of her coworkers decided to participate in a 10km run from Place Jacques Cartier in Old Montreal across the bridge to Longueuil! I was fortunate enough to, in a rather impromptu fashion, hop in one of the support vehicles and shoot hanging out the door. It was a lot of fun and everyone did so well!  ENJOY!

“We… Are…. SPARTA!!!”

Well… THEY are Sparta, or “Spartan Racers” actually.  It’s an extreme running event that includes obstacles such as the Blood Bath, Raft, Fire Jump, Rope Climbing, Camel Crawl, and several more! I was contacted for the day by a company called Nuvision who was the official photography company for the race.  They placed several photographers out in the different obstacles of the event, and I was lucky enough to get the Camel Crawl.  This is where you have to jump into a murky water/mud pit past your knees and then crawl under barbed wire through mud, water and sticks…

If you’re interested in future Spartan Race events, perhaps in your area, visit their website HERE!

If you came to the party Sunday evening at Johnny’s, maybe these photos will help you remember what happened! haha, just kidding!  Enjoy them and please note they’re all available for high-resolution download via my site at no cost!
